Vitamin C
Vitamin C is one of the safest and most effective nutrients, according to experts. It is not a cure for the common cold, but it may shorten its duration. Other benefits may include protection against immune system deficiencies and cardiovascular disease.
A water-soluble vitamin and powerful antioxidant, vitamin C also helps the body form and maintain connective tissue, including bones, blood vessels, and skin. Antioxidants are micronutrients that protect tissues in the body. They do this by blocking harmful chemical reactions caused by oxidation, which is the destructive effect of oxygen (and other oxidizing agents) on the molecular components of our cells.
